Welcome to Shabbat at Temple Israel,
the heart of our community.

Each week we gather to sing songs ancient and new, celebrate life’s joys, and find solace from sorrow.
All are welcome in our sanctuary, as the words of Isaiah proclaim above our doorsteps:

My house shall be a house of prayer for all people.

5:15 p.m.

Rabbi Elazar said in the name of Rabbi Yosi:
“Bless Shabbat with delicacies.”

Shabbat begins with Oneg Shabbat at 5:15 p.m.

Hebrew for “shabbat joy,” an Oneg Shabbat is a reception with hors d'oeuvres and community before our service.

In other words, it’s a time to hang with friends and enjoy a nosh!

6:00 p.m.

“More than the Jews have kept Shabbat,
Shabbat has kept the Jews.” -Ahad Ha’am

At 6:00 p.m. we make our way into our historic sanctuary for an Erev Shabbat service that lasts about an hour.

All of our services include joyous singing, a sermon or teaching from our clergy or guests, as well as an opportunity to recite Mourner’s Kaddish, the Jewish blessing for those who have died.

You are fully welcome
